23 December 2022

CHILD Haus or “CENTER FOR HEALTH IMPROVEMENT AND LIFE DEVELOPMENT” is a temporary shelter for indigent patients from different provinces who have cancer or other dreaded diseases and have no place to stay in Metro Manila while undergoing medical evaluation or treatment. It provides free room and board to its residents. CHILD Haus is run along the principles of hospice care and promotes the concept of holistic healing through its various programs, services and activities.” It has now grown from its humble beginnings in its very first center located in Quezon City. Its center, which is the first home for children with cancer is now a seven-story multi-purpose complex located in Agoncillo Street in Paco, Manila. Through the initiatives of the Philanthropist Ricky Reyes, the CHILD Haus was able to extend a helping and healing hand together with SM Holdings Inc, President Hans Sy and to the never-ending kindness and generosity of various donors and benefactors.

On 23 December 2022, the Association of Government Internal Auditors, Inc (AGIA) spearheaded by Marissa N. Fabricante, President visited the CHILD Haus (Paco, Manila). The AGIA Board of Directors and Secretariat interacted with the children through Baking Livelihood Program. Like any creative pursuit, baking is a form of self-expression that helps relieve stress – pouring a little bit of passion, creativity, and love into it.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Chairman (CSR), Dr Rodelene P Tan said that “BAKING BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER”. Baking can be a way to feed both those you love and strangers you will never meet – It creates a certain kind of happiness that were grateful for.

The CSR Vice Chairman, Atty Irene DT Alogoc personally taught all the cancer patients from ages 3 to 62 years old on baking specifically pizza. We know that before you can chase your baking dreams, it’s a good idea to take time to master essential skills such as: 1) Organization – Baking is a juggling act; 2) Attention to detail – Accuracy is important when it comes to baking; 3)Co-ordination – If hand-eye coordination does not come naturally to you, you can learn with practice; 4) Patience; and 5) Creativity.

Thank you to the management of Child Haus especially to Ms Daydee Castillo for the assistance! Director Alogoc promise to be back next year to continue to teach “Baking”. Hope that everybody will enjoy the most important celebration of the year, the birth of our Lord God and Savior, JESUS CHRIST!!! Merry CHRISTmas to all and have a blessed New Year 2023.

AGIA Caps the year with Assessment and Thanksgiving Activities

An assessment activity to evaluate CY 2022 performance was conducted by the AGIA BOD on December 7-9, 2022 at the Ace Water Spa, Pasig City.  This activity aimed to assess the levels of performance of each Committee and determine AGIA’s overall performance for the year. Using as bases the results of the midyear assessment and catch-up plans prepared in July 2022, all working committees’ targets were achieved as of year-end.

As part of the preparations to CY 2023 target-setting, a risk assessment was also conducted to reassess risks previously identified and determine new ones that may impact on AGIA operations, in the light of changing stakeholder needs and business environment.  AGIA President Marissa N. Fabricante closed the year-end assessment activities with a message of hope for brighter years ahead and enjoined the members of the Board to continue working as a team not only for AGIA but for the welfare of the general membership.

To end the year on a higher note, a Christmas celebration was conducted on December 9 that started with a thanksgiving mass presided by Fr. Smith Marfori of the Philippine Army.  The event attended by former AGIA Presidents Rufo Mendoza, Antonette Fernandez, Menelia C. Mortel, and Michael Gapuz. Also in attendance were some of AGIA’s resource speakers and other industry partners.

The Association of Government Internal Auditors, Inc. (AGIA, Inc.) conducted its 63rd Annual National Convention cum Seminar from October 12 to 15, 2022 at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON), Megaworld Boulevard, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. The then theme was “ AGIA @ 63: Nagkakaisa Tungo sa Marangal, Makabago at Maunlad na Pilipinas. Said theme centered on the importance of rising as one community of public servants in the midst of insurmountable challenges by adopting oneself to the emerging technological developments and on the dynamic political landscape – for a more progressive Philippines. The momentous event was graced by honorable Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who acted as the keynote speaker where he emphasized on the vital role of government internal auditors as the bearer of integrity and infallible commitment to public service and working as among the last bastions, in the government sector, of keeping the use of precious and limited government resources judiciously. Also, both the Iloilo Province Governor, Honorable Arthur R. Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City Mayor, Honorable Jerry P. Trenas were invited to the said occasion. They emphasized especially during the BODs and Secretariat’s courtesy calls to their respective offices, their full cooperation and support to the event and further said that Iloilo Province and its cities would be very happy to host and accommodate the AGIA participants on the occasion of their annual convention.

The entire activity had covered various topics through the eight (8) Technical Sessions spread out for four (4) days and that they were skillfully delivered by known experts (Resource Speakers) in their respective fields of endeavor. The participants who were both on face to face and online were observed to be very attentive during the lectures and the exchanges of ideas during the open forum after every topic discussed were truly insightful and interesting. In short, the interactions were indeed very fruitful which in most of the cases had extended the time limit of each speaker on stage.

There was a total of more than one thousand three hundred attendees who registered for the event and such attendance was already expected by the AGIA BODs and Secretariat, during their planning phase few months earlier, after having suspended or had limited the yearly activity to purely online event for two (2) consecutive years, 2020 and 2021, due to the onslaught of COVID 19 pandemic in the country. Moreso, the chosen venue in Iloilo City had been proven to be ideal for the AGIA BODs, the Secretariat and the participants since they were all accommodated with its several hotels, modern convention hall and its facilities within Mandurriao District and the many tourist destinations the entire Iloilo Province has been offering and also of its very efficient and convenient public transport system.

The entire activity was indeed successful despite the limitations offered by the government COVID 19 pandemic Task Force in the province and of the few and rather unnoticeable technical glitches and oversights experienced during the entire 4-days event. Congratulations to all of us!
